DISTRIBUTIONPhilippines
only, found throughout the Philippines. Records from Batan (USNM), Busuanga
(USNM), Catanduanes (USNM), Cebu (AMNH), Jolo (AMNH), Leyte (USNM), Luzon
[Abra (SMF), Camarines Sur (USNM), Isabela (FMNH), Laguna (AMNH), Pampanga
(USNM), Sorsogon (FMNH) provinces], Maripipi (USNM), Mindanao [Bukidnon
(SMF)], Negros (FMNH), Palawan (FMNH), and Sibuyan (FMNH). Also reported
from Mindanao [South Cotabato Province (Taylor, 1934)]
and Lubang (Lawrence, 1939).
HABITATPrimary
lowland forest from 250 to 1100 m, with several records from caves (Heaney
et al., 1991; Rickart et al., 1993), and one from a darkened cavity in
a tree buttress (Taylor, 1934).
STATUSWidespread
and moderately common.
COMMENTClosely
related to R. celebensis (Corbet and Hill, 1992).
COMMENT ADDED IN 2005Fairly common on Palawan Island (Esselstyn et al., 2004). Sedlock (2001) described the echolocation call.
NOTE ADDED IN 2005--Documented in montane forest at 925 m elevation in Balbalasang, Kalinga Province (Heaney et al. 2004)
