First Intermediate Period
2181 - 2040 B.C.
7th – 11th Dynasties

Politics:
Egypt’s central government collapses at the end of the Old Kingdom. A period of civil disorder ensues, lasting for 150 years.

Art:
Where there had been a central art style, directed by the pharaoh, there are now regional styles, none as finely developed as what had come before.
