Eternal Egypt - Egyptian Art Over Time

top image
The best artworks from this period are often small pieces from Thebes, the city where a dynasty of warrior princes fought the Hyksos for several generations before finally expelling them.
Second Intermediate Period
1750 - 1550 B.C.
14th – 17th Dynasties

Politics:
These are turbulent times for Egypt. The kingdom that was so carefully rebuilt, disintegrates again under a series of weak kings.

Attacked from the outside, northern Egypt is conquered by the Hyksos, rulers from the Near East. The country suffers under two centuries of foreign rule.

Art:
If Egyptian art ever truly declined, it was during the Second Intermediate Period. What little artwork has been found from this period is relatively crude.
