19th and 20th Dynasties

Politics:
Egypt struggles to regain stability after the political and religious upheaval of the previous dynasty. The next period is dominated by a series of pharaohs named Ramesses—the most prominent of whom is Ramesses the Great (Ramesses II).

Art:
Working to restore kingship to its former status, Ramesses II begins a massive construction program, building huge monuments and colossal statues.

The flamboyant dress and wig of this gentleman reflect the sophisticated fashions of the Late New Kingdom.
Art reflects the new, much more elaborate style of dress and jewelry.

The finest quality of two-dimensional art is seen in tomb paintings and Books of the Dead.
