Eternal Egypt - Egyptian Art Over Time

Third Intermediate Period
1069 - 656 B.C.
21st – 25th Dynasties

Politics:
Attempted invasions from the Near East, a weakening economy, and dynastic family strife cause the empire to fall apart again.

Invading Libyan tribesmen create competing city-states. This fragmentation ends when the first line of pharaohs from Kush (Sudan) conquers Egypt and establishes the 25th Dynasty.

Art:
Despite the turmoil, throughout this period Egyptian art remains vital.

Metal statuary reaches a pinnacle of splendor.

Artists often imitate the styles of earlier periods—a practice called archaism.
