Only a small fraction of the Museum's specimens from Africa are on display at any given time; most are behind the scenes, under the care of Museum staff and available for study. Books and periodicals in the library and the photographic collection further enrich the information available to users. The long-term preservation of these collections is central to the Museum's mission, as is a commitment to broad access through public exhibits, electronic databases, worldwide loans of specimens, and publications.
