Africa Discovery, Understanding, and Conservation at The Field Museum

The Tsavo Initiative is just one reflection of The Field Museum's century-long association with Africa. Throughout this site, "Africa" and "African" (unless otherwise specified) refer to the African region: the continent, Madagascar, and smaller offshore islands. Through projects across the region, the Museum contributes—as collaborator, mentor, and student—to solving the mysteries of nature and culture over time. With its African and other international partners, the Museum seeks a deep understanding of the ecological and evolutionary processes that are the source of Africa's vitality.
