What do these Ice Age creatures have in common?

Neandertal Giant Bison Moa
Neandertal (9k jpeg)

They're all extinct. The world has changed a lot since the great ice caps last melted back. Many animals, like huge moa birds and giant bison, had made it through millions of years of changing climates and shifting ice caps, only to disappear suddenly. Some of our human relatives are gone too, like this Neandertal.

We may be in the middle of an extinction crisis

It's in the news every week - a plant or animal is threatened with extinction, usually because of some human activity. Extinctions probably happen daily - we just aren't able to observe or count all of them.

Fossils show that extinctions have always occurred. And Ice Age fossils show that some of the most recent extinctions have been of the largest animals.
