ORDER—RODENTIA
FAMILY—Sciuridae

COMMON NAME—Northern Palawan tree squirrel.

DISTRIBUTION—
Palawan Faunal Region. Recorded from Central (north of Abo-abo) and northern Palawan Island only.

HABITAT—Primary and secondary lowland forest (Hoogstraal, 1951).

STATUS—
Locally common, stable. IUCN: Endangered (but we recommend delisting).

COMMENT ADDED IN 2005––Common in primary and secondary lowland forest, in second growth, and in agricultural areas, where it is reported to be a pest of crops. Ranges from sea level to at least 500 m (Esselstyn et al., 2004).
