This magnificent Tibetan scroll painting (tangka) was purchased in Kanding, in the western (Tibetan-speaking) portion of China’s Sichuan Province in 1908. It shows great delicacy and skill in draftsmanship. The central figure is the eighth-century teacher Padmasambhava, said to have been the first person to carry the Buddhist religion to Tibet from India.
