The Boone Collection
Introduction

faceIn addition to the generous donation to The Field Museum of the artifacts in the collection, the Boone family also donated money to finance two student internships each year: the Boone Scholars Internships for East Asian Studies.

These paid internships allow highly qualified candidates the opportunity to study at The Field Museum and research Anthropology collections from Japan, Korea, China, and elsewhere in the eastern part of Asia.

Interns engage in a wide variety of tasks, ranging from individual research to assisting collections management teams with the upkeep and maintenance of the collection. Past interns have also been involved in the creation of grants for East Asian materials, newspaper publication, and web design (this site was created by the first Boone interns, Yuhang Li and Brandon Olsen and updated by Juan Peng, Rob Nalewajk, Helena Stenberg, and Stev Weidlich, subsequent Boone interns). Boone Scholars report directly to the Boone Curator for Asian Anthropology and the Head of Collections in the Department of Anthropology.

Priority for acceptance will be given to those who are juniors or seniors at the time of application, but recent graduates will also be considered. Applicants must attend/have attended a public or private college or university in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, or Ohio, maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, and have a strong interest in East Asian Studies. If these qualifications remain fulfilled, interns may reapply for consecutive Boone Scholarships the following year. No individual may hold more than two Boone Scholar Internships during his or her career. Applications may be sent to:
