ascomata solitary, scattered, superficial, obpyriform, papillate, sparsely setose, setae with bulbous, swollen apex

ascospores fusiform, central cells brown, end cells paler, 3 or more septate, 20-30+ x 7-10 µm


Terrestrial habitat, found on wood in tropical and some temperate locations.


Distribution to date: Ceylon, New Zealand [Venezuela, French Guiana, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, United States (Fernandez & Huhndorf, unpubl.)]

Illustrated species is a Puerto Rican collection of M. hemipsila.
